In an attempt to surmount a 233 runs first innings score, Yashasvi Jaiswal kicked off the opening over with three back-to-back fours against Hasan Mahmud. Rohit Sharma joined him in the next over by pummeling consecutive sixes in the next deliveries to steer India to 29/0 by the second over. A couple of sixes and fours each followed from the Indian duo as they raced to the fifty runs mark in the third over itself, the fastest-ever in Test cricket. 

While the Indian pair looked crystal clear with their intentions, Mehidy Hasan Miraz managed to get the better of Rohit in the fourth over with the score 55/1 in 3.5 overs. However, this didn’t bother Jaiswal who continued the run-scoring spree, racing to a 31-ball fifty in the ninth over. Gill played second fiddle to him as the Mumbai-based southpaw toyed with the opposition bowlers. A six down the ground on a fuller ball outside the off stump at the start of the tenth over helped India get to the 99-run tally by the tenth over before Jaiswal thrashed Hasan Mahmud for a boundary in the next ball to bring up the fastest 100 in Test cricket, in just 61 balls. The Twitterverse thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment in Kanpur and showered praise for Gambhir’s ploy, drawing comparisons with England’s Bazball strategy.
