Bus falls off flyover in Odisha, 5 dead & several injured

5 individuals died and scores have been reportedly injured after the bus they have been travelling in skidded off a flyover on NH-16 close to Barabati in Jajpur on Monday.

The loss of life determine was confirmed by Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Jajpur Debasish Moharana. Two passengers died on the spot whereas three others succumbed on the hospital, the CDMO added.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident and introduced ex gratia of Rs 3L every for the kin of the deceased.  

The bus was carrying over 40 passengers and was on its approach from Puri to Haldia. Following the mishap, Fireplace Providers personnel and locals launched rescue operations. The injured have been initially despatched to Dharmasala CHC.
