Garry Richardson to step down as Sports presenter on Today programme after 50 years at the BBC

Biography

Garry Richardson joined the BBC on 9 September 1974. He was appointed as a junior researcher on the BBC Written Archives Centre at Caversham.

Garry acquired a job in BBC native radio in 1977, and labored at BBC Radio Solent, Radio Oxford, Radio Merseyside and Radio Nottingham. In 1980, Garry was invited to a 3 month trial to the BBC Radio Sport division at Broadcasting Home in London.

Garry introduced on the Radio 4 Right this moment programme for the primary time in March 1981. Later that 12 months, Garry was a part of the BBC group who lined the royal marriage ceremony of Prince Charles and Girl Diana Spencer.

Garry first reported on the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 1982.
