Metal Authority of India Restricted (SAIL), Tata Metal, Jindal Stainless Restricted (JSL), ArcelorMittal Nippon Metal (AM/NS) and Jindal Metal and Energy Restricted (JSPL) have secured metal provide contracts valued at Rs 1,586.39 crore from the Indian Railways.
Officers conversant in the matter advised ET that the bids have been invited for procuring Delicate/Corten Metal Sheets/Plates/Coils in July 2023, with the ultimate awards being confirmed earlier this month.
A separate tender was issued in February 2024 for the acquisition of chrome steel sheets and plates, which was additionally awarded on the similar time, the report mentioned.

SAIL emerged as the highest bidder, securing a good portion of each tenders. The corporate will provide 1.05 lakh metric tonnes of metal valued at Rs 671.27 crore and 16,356 MT of chrome steel valued at Rs 217.90 crore. Tata Metal follows intently with a contract to provide 52,753 MT of metal for Rs 333.48 crore.
This metal will probably be used within the fabrication of railway wagons, coaches, and bridges. According to its elevated manufacturing targets, Indian Railways plans to provide 1,500 locomotives in fiscal 2025, a 27% rise from earlier targets. The nationwide transporter goals to keep up this manufacturing degree till FY27.
