NEW DELHI: The Union house ministry has cancelled the international funding licence of no less than 5 extra NGOs over alleged violation of provisions of the Overseas Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, and Overseas Contribution (Regulation) Guidelines, 2011, sources informed TOI on Wednesday.
The NGOs whose registrations below FCRA have been cancelled are CNI Synodical Board of Social Service, Voluntary Well being Affiliation of India, Indo-World Social Service Society, Church’s Auxiliary for Social Motion, and Evangelical Fellowship of India, as per the sources.The lack of FCRA licence implies that these NGOs can not obtain funding from international sources, nor utilise their current international contributions.
The sources stated the house ministry cancelled the FCRA registration of the NGOs for allegedly utilising the international contributions for functions apart from their declared goals.
There are 16,242 lively NGOs with legitimate FCRA licences as on April 3, 2024, whereas the licences of 14,396 NGOs are deemed expired. The licences of 20,701 different NGOs have been cancelled.
Based on information disclosed in Parliament final yr, Rs 55,741.51 crore was obtained in international contributions by 13,520 FCRA-registered associations or NGOs between the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.
