NGT panel to probe illegal sand mining in Odisha’s Baitarani river


CUTTACK: The Nationwide Inexperienced Tribunal (NGT) has constituted a four-member fact-finding committee to look at allegations of mining past lease space and extra extraction by the lessee of Utteipur sand quarry 2 in Baitarani river below Dhamnagar tehsil of Bhadrak district.

NGT’s East Zone Bench in Kolkata felt the “matter requires consideration” and fashioned the committee on Wednesday on the petition filed by Bhagabat Sahoo and 4 different residents of the world. The petitioners alleged use of machines (excavators) when permission is just for guide mining (solely by way of labour and no machine for use for mining the sand and mining throughout monsoon season whereas the identical is banned). Advocate Sankar Prasad Pani and Advocate Ashutosh Padhy represented the petitioners.

The bench of B Amit Sthalekar (Judicial Member) and Arun Kumar Verma (Professional Member) mentioned, “Contemplating the allegations made, we deem it acceptable to represent a fact-finding committee to elicit the veracity of the allegations. The committee shall examine the positioning in query and submit its report inside 4 weeks.”

Senior scientists of Odisha State Air pollution Management Board, Central Air pollution Management Board and State Setting Affect Evaluation Authority moreover Bhadrak collector or his consultant not under the rank of extra district Justice of the Peace are a part of the committee.
